Marked deponirt on the bottom, which was used in french speaking contries and austria, and means it was a registered design. The support is in the shape of a boy wearing the military uniform of a roman soldier and holding a large nail in one hand and a ribbon in the other.
The base he stands on is adorned with three angel or cherub faces. I bought this in bavaria, germany.
Putti wearing roman armor is not an uncommon sight in the outdoor murals which adorn buildings in catholic german speaking europe. Could this be a tap bell from a hardware store? Or does the base instead refer to a religious theme, the agnoies of christ for example? To ring the bell you twist either of the wto knobs at the top. Both bells work well, with high robust rings. The figure of the boy and the base is amde of cast iron and is strongly magnetic. The bell measures 6.5 high. No damage, breaks, or repairs.
